A biblical confession of protection says that in Christ we are protected against the attacks of darkness, including fear, pressure and demonic activity. It is not built on fear but on the victory Jesus has already won. Below you will find 29 verses you can pray against the attacks of darkness while thanking God for his covering. At the end of the article you can download everything as a PDF.

Protection in the Bible: what does the word of God say about the attacks of darkness?
The Bible speaks about the spiritual realm calmly, without sensationalism and without fear. Scripture reminds us that “our wrestling is not against flesh and blood” (Ephesians 6:12), yet it also stresses that Christ, “having stripped the principalities and the powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them” (Colossians 2:15). “To this end the Son of God was revealed: that he might destroy the works of the devil” (1 John 3:8), and “greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world” (1 John 4:4).
That is why a believer does not have to live in fear of darkness. Psalm 91 describes life in “the secret place of the Most High” (Psalm 91:1), Peter calls us to be sober and watchful (1 Peter 5:8–9), and James gives a simple instruction: “Be subject therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). The order matters: first we submit to God, and only then do we resist the evil one.
Scripture also does not encourage a fascination with demons or looking for them behind every difficulty. What matters most is faith in what Christ has already done, life in the word, prayer and fellowship. If you struggle with fear, sleeplessness, intrusive thoughts or other troubles that overwhelm you, do not stay alone with them: talk to a trusted person from the church and, if needed, to a doctor or a counselor. A biblical confession does not replace such help, but it strengthens the heart.
How do you use the biblical confession of protection?
- Start with Christ, not with the devil. First remember what Jesus has already done on the cross.
- Read aloud and calmly, in the first person, with thanksgiving for God’s covering.
- Submit to God: begin with prayer and worship, and only then resist the evil one (James 4:7).
- Return to the confession every day, especially morning and evening and whenever you feel pressure or fear.
- Stay in the word, in prayer and in fellowship. The armor of God is daily life, not a one-time act.
- Ask for prayer. See our Prayer page or come to a church meeting.

Under the Shelter of the Most High

The Armor of God
- I am strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might (Eph 6:10).
- I put on the whole armor of God, so that I am able to stand against the wiles of the devil (Eph 6:11).
- I stand with the belt of truth buckled around my waist and the breastplate of righteousness on my chest (Eph 6:14).

Eph 6:10–17 Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and, having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having the utility belt of truth buckled around your waist, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having fitted your feet with the preparation of the Good News of peace; 16 above all, taking up the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the evil one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
I Resist the Evil One
- I submit to God, I resist the devil, and he flees from me (James 4:7).
- I am sober, self-controlled and watchful, and I withstand the devil, steadfast in my faith (1 Pet 5:8–9).
- The weapons of my warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds (2 Cor 10:4).
- I am born of God, he keeps me, and the evil one does not touch me (1 John 5:18).
- The Lord is faithful; he establishes me and guards me from the evil one (2 Thess 3:3).

2 Cor 10:4–5 for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds, 5 throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.
1 John 5:18 We know that whoever is born of God doesn’t sin, but he who was born of God keeps himself, and the evil one doesn’t touch him.
2 Thess 3:3 But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you, and guard you from the evil one.
